About Lite-4-Life
Lighting the way to safety

About Us

At Lite-4-Life we specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of photoluminescent (PL) signage and safety way guidance system (SWGS). PL signage and SWGS have proven historically to save many lives in tragic fire incidents, and is predominantly utilised in the highly regulated industries such as marine, aviation, nuclear, gas, military and oil industries. Following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower in 2017, the Government, regulations and  British Standards are thankfully recognising the importance of detailed compliant signage for easier egress in fire and smoke conditions, and the importance of supplying relevant building information to firefighting personnel when tackling a fire incident. Important building details may save seconds if not minutes in a seek and find scenario, whilst a SWGS may just be the path that leads someone to safety. We at Lite-4-Life refer to our systems as ‘the airbag in your car’ fitted to save lives, but hopefully will never be used.

Our Products: Quality and Compliance

Whilst many PL products are readily available online, a significant number of these are substandard and will not provide quality initial luminance or the longevity of light needed. Sadly, the majority of the industry still focusses on price and not quality, and the race to the bottom in the construction and compliance world is still evident, even after the tragic events of Grenfell Tower and the numerous legislation updates.

At Lite-4-Life we have worked with a photo luminescent chemist to produce and provide the most superior photoluminescent board available to the domestic market. Our boards are tested to a Class C+ standard, ensuring high initial luminance and sustained illumination for several hours under darkened conditions, meeting the requirements for safe evacuation and information for firefighting personnel in smoke filled conditions.

Current Legislation and Welcome Additions

Whilst we currently manufacture, supply and fit PL signage to comply with the Building Regulations, Fire Safety England regulations and the relevant British Standards, we welcome the very recent changes to BS9991 that states that a low mounted safety way guidance system should be provided within the stairway/s of new development buildings over 50m in height. Given these changes, we feel that this recommendation should be retrospective on existing buildings to improve life safety opportunities wherever possible.

Bespoke Design, Production, Delivery and Fitting

We pride ourselves on the period of time we can survey, manufacture and fit out signage to a building. From survey to completion we have completed full installation of buildings in 3 to 5 working days. With our fitting service, Lite-4-Life take full design responsibility to ensure that installations are effective, compliant and in line with all relevant standards.

A Proven Cost-Saving Solution

PL is not just about life safety, it can also help to reduce the carbon footprint for clients by utilising PL over traditional emergency lighting, or replacing current emergency lighting where PL will provide equal compliance. To illustrate the potential savings, Sainsbury’s PLC saved £1.5 million annually. This was achieved by replacing traditional back-illuminated exit signs with PL alternatives, thereby saving on electricity and removing the need for emergency light testing.
